Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever does not give up forged speech and evil actions, Allah is not in need of his leaving his food and drink (ie Allah will not accept his fasting)."
Sahih al-Bukhari 1903 (Book 30, Hadith 13)
QUICK LESSONS:
Abstain from evil actions and forged speech while fasting
EXPLANATIONS:
This hadith emphasizes the importance of abstaining from more than just food and drink during fasting. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught that it is necessary to also refrain from evil actions and forged speech in order to have a successful fast. This means that one should not lie, cheat, or do anything else that goes against Islamic teachings while fasting. Additionally, this hadith teaches us the importance of being mindful of our words and deeds at all times, not just when we are fasting. It reminds us that Allah will not accept our fast if we do not strive to be better people overall.
